RedHat documentation for what is on this floppy.

The following has been updated. Some of the items are the same as before
even though nothing changed. This is because the info is important and I
did not want to have to tell people to go and look at the older release notes.

See /RELEASE-NOTES for the RedHat release notes.
See /Fermi.documentation/ for info on what has changed compared to RedHat 7.1 .

2. Update to autorpm.config because it was sending mail to
        root@dcdsv0.fnal.gov

		autorpm-config-3.0-3.noarch.rpm

3*. Fermi Kerberos rpms along with the appropriate ssh are installed by
default in "Fermi Full Kerberized" mode for all workgroups except for
the following where a question is asked during the install. The
default choice for this question is "Fermi Full Kerberized". Again
this means "Full Kerberized" and thus NO system passwords.

	"Fermi Generic Desktop"
	"CDF"
	"CDFoffsite"
	"CDFonline"
	"CDFlevel3"
	"GenericFarm"
	"BooNE"
	"ODS"

4*. Added ncurses-devel into "development" because a "make menuconfig" needs
     it.

5. Workgroup updates

	Added the following workgroups

		FnaluBatch
FermiVeryGeneric -- use for kickstart installs to
				     make your own workgroup
		BooNE

Updated all the CDF workgroups to include

		readline-devel
        	ncurses-devel

Transformed the PAT workgroup into the CPD workgroup.
This does not add or delete any rpms. Nor does it run the
after.rpms.sh script that modifies system files during install.
This only makes the system be a CPD system instead of a PAT system.
To make a existing PAT system think it is now a CPD system.

	    Install CPD-tag.*.rpm
	    mv /etc/PAT /etc/CPD

6. /contrib/laptops/dell

Updated the README because I had to remove the NVIDIA rpms as they
        are NOT redistributable.

7. Upgraded UPS/UPD bootstrap to fix problem with perl. If you already have
ups/upd bootstrap loaded you need to upgrade manually with upd/ups and
     not via this rpm.

		upsupdbootstrap-2.2-4.i386.rpm

8. In /contrib/intelpro100/

The Intel Pro 100 driver from Intel.

9. Updated openafs.

	openafs-fermi-1.2.2-6.i386.rpm

10. /contrib/kernel/

RedHat has released another errata kernel. It needs to
be tested so it will be in /contrib/kernel for a while.
We have not done ANY testing with this kernel, including AFS.
Note that you will need to upgrade the other rpms below for
use with this new kernel. Please test.

		kernel-2.4.9-12.i386.rpm
		kernel-2.4.9-12.i586.rpm
		kernel-2.4.9-12.i686.rpm
		kernel-headers-2.4.9-12.i386.rpm
		kernel-source-2.4.9-12.i386.rpm
		kernel-smp-2.4.9-12.i586.rpm
		kernel-smp-2.4.9-12.i686.rpm
		kernel-enterprise-2.4.9-12.i686.rpm
		kernel-BOOT-2.4.9-12.i386.rpm
		kernel-doc-2.4.9-12.i386.rpm

		e2fsprogs-1.23-1.7.1.i386.rpm
		e2fsprogs-devel-1.23-1.7.1.i386.rpm
		filesystem-2.1.0-2.1.noarch.rpm
		initscripts-5.84.1-1.i386.rpm
		mkinitrd-3.2.6-1.i386.rpm
		modutils-2.4.6-4.i386.rpm
		tux-2.1.0-2.i386.rpm

11. Added mt-tools to the standard install. These are the
     mt commands for tape.

12. Added some icons to the workgroups install screen.

13. Updated Fermi kerberos rpms. /contrib/kerberos/

	  krb5-fermi-1.3c-4.i386.rpm
          krb5-fermi-login-1.3c-4.i386.rpm
          krb5-fermi-config-1.5-7.i386.rpm

14. Added a utility which tells you if your ethernet port is in
     full or half duplex mode.

	/contrib/diag-ether/diag-ether-2.0-3.i386.rpm

15. Changed the "laptop" selection to do that same things as a
"Fermi Generic Desktop" install. The install in some case could
determine that you had a "laptop" and would suggest a "Laptop" install.
Problem was that this included only RedHat selections. Now it
     includes Fermi selections.

16. Changed /etc/hosts.allow to NOT allow offsite ssh access.
________________________________________________________________________
Older info which is still relavant.

1. Adaptec scsi support is still poor, just not as bad as it was.
If your install hangs and you have adaptec scsi then reboot with
"linux apic" at the install boot prompt. This has helped at least
     one user.

2. Install turns on IDE DMA by default. This can cause some
cdroms/disks to be "sad". So if you have problems during the install
in particular with it "hanging" the suggested fix is to turn dma off
during the install. This can be done by at the install prompt typing

        linux ide=nodma

or

        text ide=nodma

3. inetd and /etc/inetd.conf have been replaced with xinetd and /etc/
xinetd.d/ . Similar features but done differently.

4. Other RedHat features are still there.

5. The current kernel is still 2.4.3 . The test kernel in /contrib/kernel has
been removed as it is too old. New test version soon.

6*. You are able to install only via nfs. Ftp installs do not
work at this time. Still working on this. Should be back at a later
     date.

7*. The default for firewall is off still. You can still select what you want.

8. Both text and graphical installs should work as long as they work
with the default RedHat install. The reason for the "if" is that the
normal RedHat installer will switch to "text" mode if it cannot do
graphical mode. Note that ftp installs only work in text mode.

9.* Cdrom installs are now available. Will post images

     ftp:/linux.fnal.gov/linux/711/iso/
ftp:/linux1.fnal.gov/linux/711/iso/ (not really here until I get
					    more disk space)

Errata from RedHat also see item 10 above. Those are not in here yet
as they need testing by you.
